Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qayyum re-elected unopposed as President of Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Jun, 2026) Lieutenant General (R) Abdul Qayyum (Hilal-i-Imtiaz Military) has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society (PESS) for a second three-year term during the organisation's 65th General Council meeting held in Rawalpindi.

The meeting was attended by senior retired military officers, including Admiral Abdul Azeem, Air Marshal Pervez Nawaz, Brigadier Zulfiqar Shaheen, Commodore Arshad Mahmood, Aziz Ahmed Awan, Khalid Mahmood Qazi, Colonel Syed Jamshed Hussain Shah, Brigadier Asim (Attock), Brigadier Zafar Iqbal (Chakwal), Brigadier Javed Iqbal (Lahore), Brigadier M. Farooq Shaukat (Karachi), Chief Petty Officer Saeed-ur-Rehman (Mansehra), along with society members and office-bearers from across the country.

Following the election, members of the organisation, representing over 4 million ex-servicemen across Pakistan, announced the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as the Honorary Patron-in-Chief of the society.

They also congratulated Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum on his unopposed election as president.

Soon after assuming office, Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qayyum reappointed Aziz Ahmed Awan as Chief Organiser and Media Coordinator for another three-year term and additionally assigned him the responsibilities of Contact Secretary.

During the meeting, participants passed a resolution calling for Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to be awarded the Nobel Peace prize as his contributions towards global peace. The meeting also strongly condemned social media criticism directed at armed forces.

The council further announced that one retired lieutenant general, seven retired major generals and 16 retired brigadiers had joined the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society. The new members pledged their full support to the re-elected president and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of retired military personnel while strengthening the organisation.

Addressing the meeting, Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qayyum thanked retired officers, junior commissioned officers, soldiers and other members of the society for reposing their confidence upon him.

He pledged to make the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society more active, stronger and effective, while continuing efforts to safeguard the rights, welfare and interests of retired servicemen and address the challenges they face.

He said the society would continue to serve as the representative voice of ex-servicemen and play its role in securing their legitimate rights.
