Main Ashura-e-Muharram mourning procession concludes

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) The main Ashura-e-Muharram mourning procession taken out on 10th Muharram al-Haram 1448 A.H, in the port city amidst strict security arrangement which emerged from Nishter Park, after passing through its traditional routes concluded peacefully at the Husseiniya Irania Imambara Kharadar - district South here on Friday.

The participants of the main Ashura procession offered Namaz-e-Zohrain at Tibet Center led by prominent scholar Allama Syed Shehenshah Hussain Naqvi.

Governor of Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi participated in the main Youm-e-Ashura procession and met with the mourners.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also joined and led the Ashura procession at Sea Breeze Plaza, M.A.Jinnah Road here.

Inspector General of Sindh Police Javaed Alam Odho also visited the route of main procession of Ashura-e-Muharram, the 10th Muharram-ul-Haram and reviewed security arrangements.

Deputy Inspector General of district East Dr. Farrukh Ali reviewed the security arrangements of the main Ashura procession at Naumaish Chowrangi here.

Full-proof security arrangements were made by the Karachi Police to ensure peaceful environment for the mourners on the occasion of the main Ashura Procession.

Around 6,843 police officers and personnel were deployed for security of main procession, on the directives of Additional Inspector General Karachi, Syed Aazad Khan, said a spokesperson of Karachi Police.

Around 1,016 traffic policemen and 157 lady police officers were among the security officials and personnel of police deployed on the occasion.

For the surveillance and effective response of the central procession, 182 police vehicles, including mobile units, APCs (Armored Personnel Carriers), motorcycles, and other official vehicles were also deployed at various locations.

Special arrangements were made along the procession routes, including the deployment of snipers, reserve forces, plainclothes officers, bomb disposal squads, search and sweep operations, snap checking, and effective traffic management.

Continuous monitoring was carried out through CCTV cameras from the Command and Control Center to promptly handle any emergency situation.

The main procession route and surrounding roads were sealed off with containers. The M.A. Jinnah Road was closed for traffic due and traffic was routed to the alternative routes announced by the Karachi Traffic police to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

The Sabeel (stalls of free meals and cold water and drinks) as well as stalls of rescue organization were also established on the route of procession to facilitate the mouners.
