Major terror plot foiled in Lakki Marwat; 40-kg bomb defused

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Feb, 2026) A major terrorist plan was foiled in Lakki Marwat district after police successfully defused a 40-kilogram improvised explosive device (IED) planted on a busy highway.

The operation was carried out under the special directives of Zulfiqar Hameed, Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a spokesperson District Police Officer Lakki Marwat Nazir Khan was informed that terrorists had planted an explosive device on a drain bridge along the Lakki–Mianwali National Highway.

Acting swiftly, City Police cordoned off the area, which is considered highly sensitive due to the presence of schools and the Frontier Institute of education and Research nearby.

The Bomb Disposal Squad defused the locally made, remote-controlled IED using modern equipment and expert tactics.

The bomb had been concealed inside a drum containing more than 40 kilograms of explosive material. Two detonators, a 12-volt battery, and an electronic circuit were also recovered from the site.

Commending the timely and successful operation, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed lauded Lakki Marwat Police and the Bomb Disposal Squad for preventing a major act of terrorism on a public roadway.

He stated that planting a bomb at a public location clearly exposes the malicious intentions of terrorists. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious elements in their surroundings to help ensure public safety.

The provincial police chief further remarked that the police personnel who risk their lives to protect the lives and property of the public are the true heroes of the nation.
