QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Apr, 2026) Secretary Local Government and Rural Development Abdul Rauf Baloch on Wednesday said that making local government (LG) institutions financially stable is the need of the hour, so that they could play an effective role in providing basic facilities to the people.

He said this while chairing a meeting regarding the proposed draft model tax schedule for Balochistan Local Councils through video link.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Local Government Board Shujaat Ali, Chief Metropolitan Corporation Nazar Zehri, Khadim Hussain and senior officers of the Local Government and Rural Development Department and Metropolitan Corporation Quetta.

The meeting discussed the draft model tax schedule prepared under Section 115 of the Local Government Act 2010 in detail.

On this occasion, a comprehensive presentation was also given by the concerned authorities on the draft tax schedule, in which the proposed taxes, their implementation procedures, and various aspects of strengthening the financial autonomy of local councils were highlighted.

Addressing the meeting via video link, Secretary Local Government Abdul Rauf Baloch stressed that the tax schedule should be formulated in such a way that not only the revenue of local governments increases but also would not put unnecessary burden on the people.

During the meeting, previous notifications and tax policies were also reviewed and discussed in detail so that the new policy could be made compatible with the current requirements.

The participants presented various suggestions, which were finalized and decided to submit to the relevant forum.

The Secretary Local Government directed that all the suggestions should be made practical and workable, so that the local government system can be made more functional, transparent and people-friendly.

He expressed his determination that all resources would be utilized to establish a strong local government system in the province.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that steps would be taken to finalize the draft model tax schedule and implement it as soon as possible, so that the local governance system could be made effective and sustainable.
