LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Apr, 2026) A male hippopotamus from South Africa has arrived at Lahore Zoo to pair with the existing female as part of the zoo’s breeding program.
According to Punjab Wildlife officials, efforts to accelerate animal pairing and breeding have intensified, with practical steps being taken to convert solitary animals into pairs.
Lions and tigers are also being housed in pairs to facilitate reproduction.
Officials noted that the white rhinoceros is still awaiting a partner, while suitable pairs are being sought for leopards, jaguars, and other rare animals.
The wildlife authorities emphasized that these initiatives aim not only to promote the natural reproduction of animals but also to help preserve rare and endangered species within the zoo.
