Maryam Nawaz Thalassemia Center starts functioning in Chiniot

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Mar, 2026) A state-of-the-art Maryam Nawaz Thalassemia Center has started functioning in Chiniot in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz for providing most modern treatment facilities to children suffering from thalassemia.

Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar inaugurated the center along with Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sohail Akhtar Sukhera and met the young patients and distributed gifts among them during the ceremony.

This center was built with the financial support of a philanthropist who donated Rs7 million. This nine-bed facility has been equipped with modern medical machinery to provide blood transfusion and treatment services to thalassemia patients.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Health Chiniot Dr Saqib Munir briefed the participants about the project and its operational features.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chiniot Ayesha Rizwan and District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Naveed Atif were also present on the occasion while the philanthropist Muhammad Mudassar Hussain attended the event along with his family.

The health officials informed that 158 children suffering from thalassemia have already been registered at the center and now they are receiving blood transfusion and treatment services.

The divisional commissioner said that establishment of a modern thalassemia ward was a valuable gift of the district administration for the people of Chiniot which would spare the patients from travelling to distant cities for treatment.

He also appreciated the philanthropic family for supporting the project and contributing to the welfare of patients.

During visit, the divisional commissioner also inspected the district’s trauma center, reviewing the medical facilities available at the three-bed unit established to provide quick treatment services to emergency patients.

Later, the divisional commissioner along with the RPO visited Chiniot furniture market and reviewed ongoing beautification work.

He said that beautification of the furniture market and Jhang Road would significantly transform outlook of the city.

On the occasion, the divisional commissioner announced that a “Made in Chiniot Expo” would be held in April to promote renowned furniture industry of the district.

He also visited Islamia College Ground with the RPO and appreciated the ongoing efforts of the deputy commissioner in developing the ground as a modern recreational and fitness facility for citizens. The foreign ambassadors would also be invited to participate in the expo, he added.

Later, the divisional commissioner and the RPO visited Bhowana tehsil where they inaugurated the newly constructed building of a police station and inspected various sections of the facility.

Talking to media persons, he said that regional police were actively working to eradicate crime and ensure justice for the oppressed.
