Massive fire erupts at detergent factory

KARACHI:

A massive fire broke out in the warehouse of a detergent manufacturing factory near Valika Chowrangi in the SITE Area on Tuesday, destroying chemicals and other materials worth millions of rupees. No loss of life was reported in the incident.

According to officials, the blaze erupted in the factory situated within the limits of the SITE-A police station and quickly intensified, engulfing the entire warehouse. Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen from several kilometres away, causing panic in the surrounding industrial and residential areas.

Police and welfare organisations reached the site and called in fire brigade and Rescue 1122 teams. Firefighting operations were launched upon their arrival.

Keamari Deputy Commissioner Amir Fazeel and Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan also reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation. Firefighters battled the flames from three sides using water and foam to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby factories, houses and a petrol pump.

During the operation, a portion of the warehouse's tin-sheet roof collapsed due to the intensity of the blaze. However, timely action prevented any casualties.
