Maulana Idrees laid to rest amid massive gathering in Turangzai

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) Funeral prayer for the renowned religious scholar Maulana Sheikh Muhammad Idrees Shaheed was offered in his native town, Turangzai amid an overwhelming turnout of mourners on Tuesday.

The funeral prayer was led by his son Maulana Anees as thousands of people from all schools of thought attended the ceremony, reflecting widespread grief and sorrow across the region.

Among the attendees was Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, along with prominent religious and political figures. The Provincial Ameer of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Ata-ur-Rehman, and other leaders were also present and offered prayers for the deceased.

Strict security arrangements were put in place for the occasion with a significant presence of law enforcement personnel. Volunteers from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) also assisted in maintaining security during the funeral gathering. The deceased was later laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Turangzai.

The atmosphere in the area remained somber as the large crowd expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the respected scholar.
