ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Acting Chairman of the Senate, Syedaal Khan Nasar, said that May 1 is not merely a symbolic day; rather, it represents the historic struggle, sacrifices, and renewed commitment of workers toward achieving social justice

In his message on the occasion of International Labour Day, he said that the day serves as a reminder that the labour force constitutes the backbone of any society’s development and progress.

He observed that Pakistan’s economic growth and stability are directly linked to the dedication, skills, and hard work of its labour force. A prosperous workforce, he noted, is essential for a thriving nation. Therefore, it is imperative to ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and comprehensive social protection so that workers can lead dignified lives.

The Acting Chairman Senate highlighted that Parliament, particularly the Senate, has consistently played an active role in pro-labour legislation and policymaking, and reaffirmed its commitment to continue these efforts in the future.

He further stated that the present government is undertaking various initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of workers, farmers, and underprivileged segments of society.

In light of current economic challenges, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is making dedicated efforts to provide maximum relief to the public, and several welfare programs have been introduced for vulnerable groups.

Syedaal Khan Nasar commended the invaluable contributions of the labour class toward national development and prosperity, describing their tireless efforts as a source of pride.

He also underscored that in islam, earning a livelihood through honest labour holds great dignity and respect.

Reaffirming his commitment, he stated that comprehensive measures will be undertaken to address the issues faced by workers, including effective legislation, institutional reforms, and the strengthening of welfare systems to ensure sustainable solutions to their challenges.

He also paid tribute to Pakistani workers employed abroad, acknowledging their vital role in supporting their families and contributing significantly to the national economy. He assured that safeguarding their rights remains a priority of the government.

In conclusion, he said that International Labour Day provides an opportunity to renew our pledge to respect workers, uphold their rights, and collectively strive for the establishment of a just, balanced, and prosperous society.
