MCCI extols Punjab govt actions for improving environmental conditions in province

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) President Mian Bakhtawar Tanveer Sheikh on Thursday said that the environmental conditions in Punjab had improved over the last few years because of positive actions.

Addressing a ceremony held in connection with completion of one year Environment Protection Force at MCCI, he suggested covering industrial boilers, using zigzag technology in brick kilns, and controlling smoke from transport vehicles. He especially emphasized promoting electric transport and reducing pollution caused by motorcycles, buses, and city transport.

Deputy Director Environment Protection Force, Tahir Abbas Sial, spoke about the force’s one-year achievements. He said that through effective planning, the Air Quality Index was prevented from rising above 200.

He explained that anti-smog campaigns, tree plantation drives, and public awareness programs had increased eco-friendly thinking among citizens. He also mentioned important steps such as water recycling systems at service stations, dustbins in educational institutions and shopping malls, and the establishment of a help desk for environmental guidance.

SP Safe City Nasrullah added that Safe Cities Authority Multan and the Environmental Protection Force were using modern technology together to reduce pollution with positive results.

Former President Khawaja Muhammad Hussain appreciated the environmental vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and said that these efforts were creating healthy and positive effects in society.

At the end of the ceremony, a cake was cut to celebrate force achievements.
