MD SIDA asks officials to curb irrigation water theft

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Apr, 2026) The Managing Director of Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA) Mansoor Ahmed Memon has emphasized on the need of curbing theft of irrigation water while ensuring a fair water distribution among farmers.

Chairing a meeting at the office of Nara Canal Area Water board on Saturday, he also directed the officials to ensure that measurements of the watercourses in all divisions and subdivisions were kept up to date to avoid any injustice in water sharing.

Memon also asked the officials to ensure that irrigation water reached the tail-end areas.

The MD said the areas reporting water shortage should be brought under the regime of water rotation.

"We won't tolerate water theft with the help of siphons and pipes," he warned, asking the officials to take prompt action against people involved in the theft.

Memon said the staff should attend their duty regularly and that they should also carry out field visits to monitor distributaries and watercourses.

Director Nara Canal AWB Shan Muhammad Mallah and other officers attended the meeting.
