RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2026) A meeting was held in the chair of Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Aamir Khattak at the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) office to address the issue of water leakage in the basement of Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH).
The meeting was attended by the hospital administration and heads of all relevant departments. Commissioner Aamir Khattak took serious notice of the persistent leakage, terming it a longstanding issue that requires immediate and effective intervention. He stressed that ensuring the structural safety of the hospital building must remain the top priority.
During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that water accumulation in various parts of the hospital is primarily due to a high underground water table and seepage. Boreholes have been drilled at multiple locations to assess the nature and extent of the problem.
The commissioner was further briefed that efforts are underway to improve water drainage by widening openings in sewerage lines. Proposals were also discussed to construct pits at selected and install motors to pump out accumulated water into the main sewerage system.
Directing authorities to avoid temporary fixes, the commissioner emphasized the need for a long-term, sustainable solution that does not compromise the building’s structure. He instructed that a comprehensive report be prepared and submitted at the earliest.
Commissioner Aamir Khattak also directed the hospital administration to ensure close coordination with all concerned departments and maintain strong liaison with the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to resolve the issue promptly through technical measures.
