Meeting reviews measures to improve healthcare in KP

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah chaired an important meeting regarding the implementation of the Good Governance Roadmap in the health sector, reviewing in detail the ongoing initiatives aimed at improving healthcare services across the province.

The meeting was informed that, on the directives of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Health Department is undertaking practical steps under the Good Governance Roadmap to enhance healthcare delivery.

In this regard, the recruitment process for approximately 2,500 medical personnel on a contract basis is currently underway to address shortages of medical officers, nurses, and dental surgeons.

During the briefing, it was shared that the recruitment includes 1,425 doctors, 250 dental surgeons, and 764 nurses. To ensure merit and transparency, multiple interview panels have been constituted at the divisional level to expedite the recruitment process locally.

The meeting further noted that, for the convenience of candidates, virtual interview facilities will also be provided. The scrutiny of applications is currently in progress, after which formal interviews will be conducted.

The Chief Secretary directed that the availability of medical staff in remote and underserved areas must be ensured so that quality healthcare services can be delivered at the doorstep of the people. He also instructed that the contract-based recruitment process be completed within the month.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Chief Secretary stated that improving the health sector remains a top priority, and ensuring timely and quality healthcare services to the public is a key objective under the Good Governance Roadmap.
