Mepco recovers Rs629 million from defaulters in July crackdown

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jul, 2026) Acting on the directives of Chief Executive Officer MEPCO Engineer Gul Muhammad Zahid,

the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) has intensified its special recovery campaign

against electricity defaulters across the region, recovering Rs629.5 million in outstanding

dues during the current month.

According to a MEPCO spokesman, special teams of the Disco Support Unit (DSU),

in coordination with police and district administrations, are conducting daily operations

against major defaulters. The campaign includes power disconnections, legal action, and

recovery of outstanding electricity bills.

From July 1 to 25 in 2026, Mepco recovered dues from 33,177 defaulters across different

consumer categories including 28,699 domestic consumers, who paid Rs 359.7 million,

1,994 agricultural tube-well consumers who cleared Rs184.3 million, 214 industrial consumers

who paid Rs 44.5 million, and 2,217 commercial consumers, who deposited Rs 37.6 million.

An additional Rs3.2 million was recovered from 53 consumers belonging to other categories.

The spokesman said, Rs214 million was recovered from consumers whose electricity connections

had been disconnected due to non-payment, while another Rs300 million was received through

installment payments.

The CEO Mepco said, timely recovery of electricity dues was essential for the financial stability

of the utility and for ensuring better services to consumers. He directed all field officers and

recovery teams to achieve assigned targets with professionalism and integrity.

He emphasized that no concession would be granted to major defaulters and that DSU

operations would continue without interruption until outstanding dues were fully recovered.

The CEO further instructed all Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, SDOs, and

recovery officers to personally supervise the campaign in their respective jurisdictions,

strengthen legal action against chronic defaulters and electricity thieves, and ensure the

achievement of monthly recovery targets.
