Minister stresses public cooperation in anti-littering drive

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Apr, 2026) Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique on Friday directed to take steps for getting cooperation of citizen to achieve cleanliness targets.

During a meeting chaired by Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique at the Town Hall,it was decided to take feedback from citizens while discussing the awareness campaign for anti-littering in Lahore.

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Shoaib Mirza,Deputy Commissioner(DC) Lahore Captain R.Ali Ijaz,DG Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din and Chief Minister’s Focal Person for Suthra Punjab Asim Mehmood also attended the meeting.

Assistant Commissioners of Lahore gave a briefing on cleanliness operations in their tehsils.

Provincial Minister Zeeshan Rafique directed steps to bring gated communities of Lahore under the purview of Suthra Punjab saying that cleanliness targets can be achieved only with the cooperation of citizens.

He stressed that the practice of throwing garbage unnecessarily on vacant plots must be discouraged.

"There has been a lot of improvement in awareness in urban areas of Lahore, however, LWMC should also conduct a similar awareness campaign in rural union councils",he urged.

The Minister directed that machinery should be used where volume of waste is huge."Clearing the areas under the administration of the Railways in Lahore is commendable", he added.

On this occasion,Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Shoaib Mirza said that the scope of Clean Punjab was being expanded day by day in Lahore. "If there is a shortage of human resources and machinery in any place,it will be removed",he pledged.

DC Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Ali Ijaz directed the Assistant Commissioners to continue inspecting the sanitation operations and expressed his determination that sanitation is a continuous process for which constant monitoring is also necessary."Insha Allah, Lahore will be made a model of cleanliness for the entire Punjab", he resolved.
