Moeen Ali explains decision to choose HBL PSL 2026 over IPL

England all-rounder says limited game time and fewer batting opportunities influenced his decision to opt out this year

LONDON: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 18th, 2026) England all-rounder Moeen Ali has explained his decision to prioritise the HBL Pakistan Super League (HBL PSL 2026) over the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying he is focused on getting more consistent playing opportunities at this stage of his career.

In an interview, Moeen Ali said he played only half of the matches in the previous IPL season for Kolkata Knight Riders, adding that limited game time and fewer batting opportunities influenced his decision to opt out this year.

The 38-year-old cricketer stated that he is still keen to extend his career while maintaining form and fitness, and regular participation in matches remains his top priority.

Now representing Karachi Kings in the HBL PSL 2026, Moeen Ali said his decision to play in Pakistan also aligns better with his personal and family commitments due to the league’s shorter schedule.

He added that he had long been interested in featuring in the PSL, but overlapping schedules of global T20 leagues often force players to choose between tournaments. This time, he said, he chose the HBL PSL to ensure more consistent involvement and better rhythm in his performances.
