ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Mar, 2026) Ahead of the monsoon season, the district administration has launched a city-wide clean-up drive, covering multiple drains and sewer lines to support the flow of rainwater and reduce the risk of water accumulation.

On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, cleaning work has started in different areas of the city. Under the monsoon plan, teams carried out desilting of drains and removal of waste from waterways to prepare for expected rainfall, said the spokesman of ICT administration here.

A major focus of the campaign remained Korangi Nala, along with other drains across the city. Officials said that cleaning work in these drains has been completed, while further checks are continuing in other locations to ensure there are no blockages.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioners monitored the drive in their respective areas. They visited different sites to review progress and ensure that cleaning work was carried out according to plan. Field staff remained present at key points during the operation.

Along with drain cleaning, inspection of manholes was also conducted across the city. Officials checked covers, blockages and the condition of sewer lines to avoid overflow during heavy rain.

Teams were instructed to address any issues on the spot to maintain smooth drainage.

The district administration said the purpose of the campaign is to improve the drainage system before the start of the monsoon. Officials added that timely cleaning of drains and sewer lines can help reduce problems caused by rainwater accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas.

Authorities further said that coordination between different departments has been maintained during the drive. Sanitation teams, field officers and other staff worked together to complete the task within a set time.

Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad directed all field formations to remain active and continue monitoring conditions in their areas. He said that all available resources should be used to keep drains clear and ensure that water flows without obstruction during rainfall.

Officials stated that the clean-up campaign will continue for the next few days. Additional inspections and follow-up work will also be carried out to maintain the system and address any new issues that may arise.

The administration said that these steps are part of preparations to manage the impact of monsoon rains and to keep roads and public areas accessible for residents across the city.
