Monsoon season raises dengue threat, citizens call for timely preventive measures

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jul, 2026) The onset of the monsoon season has increased concerns over the possible spread of dengue fever in Rawalpindi, prompting citizens to urge the authorities concerned to ensure effective preventive measures, including improved sanitation and timely drainage of stagnant rainwater.

Talking to APP, residents said that heaps of garbage, blocked drains and stagnant water in various localities could become ideal breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes if immediate action was not taken. They stressed that preventive measures before and during the monsoon season were essential to protect public health.

They urged the District Administration, District Health Authority, Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi and other civic agencies to intensify cleanliness operations, clear storm-water drains and ensure proper disposal of solid waste across the city.

The residents also called for special attention to Nullah Lai and adjoining areas, saying that uninterrupted flow of rainwater and regular cleaning of the nullah were necessary to prevent water accumulation and mosquito breeding during the rainy season.

They further urged the authorities to adopt effective safety measures at solid waste dumping sites by ensuring regular waste disposal, anti-larvae activities and other preventive interventions to minimize the risk of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

Talking to APP, a resident, Muhammad Asif, said that timely preventive action was the most effective way to control dengue. He said cleanliness of residential areas, removal of stagnant water, awareness among the public and coordinated efforts by all concerned departments were essential to prevent the disease during the monsoon season.

Health experts have advised the public to avoid storing uncovered water, keep their surroundings clean and immediately report suspected dengue symptoms to the nearest healthcare facility, as community participation remains vital in preventing the spread of dengue during the monsoon season.
