Murree administration conducts large-scale mock exercise ahead of Muharram

The District Administration Murree on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive, large-scale mock exercise to prepare for any emergency during Muharram-ul-Haram, following special instructions from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) The District Administration Murree on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive, large-scale mock exercise to prepare for any emergency during Muharram-ul-Haram, following special instructions from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi.

The exercise aimed to assess the preparedness, interdepartmental coordination, and emergency response capabilities of all relevant institutions to ensure a prompt and effective response to any untoward incident during the holy month.

Various simulated emergency scenarios were staged, including security threats, emergency response, safe evacuation, road clearance, provision of medical assistance and the effective use of communication systems.

A detailed review was also carried out of the entire response mechanism, from the receipt of emergency calls to the deployment of rescue teams, response times and operational coordination among departments.

Rescue 1122 teams demonstrated rescue operations, first aid procedures and the safe evacuation of injured persons, while police and other law enforcement agencies showcased their professional capabilities in establishing security cordons, crowd management and protecting sensitive locations.

The exercise also tested coordination and the timely exchange of information between different departments.

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Murree Captain (Retd) Arshad Iqbal said the exercise was not merely a formality but an effort to strengthen the practical capabilities of all institutions further so that a prompt, organised and effective response could be ensured in any emergency.

He said the district administration remained committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens, maintaining law and order and providing the best possible facilities to mourners during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Officials from the district administration, police, Rescue 1122, the Highway Department, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Civil Defence, Traffic Police, Health Department, WAPDA, WASA, Sui Gas, the Suthra Punjab Programme, Municipal Committee Murree, Anjuman Tajran, representatives of the print and electronic media, and other relevant institutions participated in the exercise.

The District Central Control Room and Operations Centre, Murree, ensured live monitoring, communication support and logistical arrangements throughout the exercise.
