FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Director General (DG) Muhammad Asif Chaudhry on Friday said that kabaddi, as a traditional sport, played a vital role in promoting cultural heritage and fostering healthy activities among youth.
He expressed these views while attending the semifinals of the Sarsabz Inter-Departmental National Kabaddi Championship as chief guest at Kabaddi Stadium Malakpur.
The championship organized in collaboration with divisional and district kabaddi associations featured participation from eight teams across the country including Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Police, WAPDA, Pakistan Ordnance Factories Wah, Higher education Commission Pakistan and Pakistan Sports board.
According to organizers, the final match would be played between Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force while WAPDA and Higher Education Commission teams would compete for third position.
On the occasion, the chief guest was introduced to the semifinalist teams and briefed about arrangements made to host national-level competitions at the venue.
FDA Director General Muhammad Asif Chaudhry appreciated the efforts of the organizers for promoting Kabaddi and praised the excellent arrangements.
He said that Kabaddi was not just a sport but a symbol of national spirit and cultural identity, deeply rooted in the region’s traditions. He said that Kabaddi was a unique blend of physical strength, agility and mental strategy, which helped promote a healthy lifestyle and strengthen sports culture in society.
He also commended participating players for demonstrating discipline and high standards of sportsmanship, stating that such events helped bridge the gap between rural and urban communities through sports.
Among others present on the occasion were President Divisional Kabaddi Association and former MPA Rana Ali Abbas, Secretary Shahbaz Randhawa, President District Kabaddi Association and former MPA Faqir Hussain Dogar and Secretary Rana Imran Ahmad Khan.
Other notable attendees included Ali Raza Dogar, Muhammad Amin Guddu, Manzoor Butt, Mian Abdul Rauf and Amir Dogar, along with a large number of kabaddi enthusiasts.
Former parliamentarians and association officials thanked the DG FDA for his participation and reiterated their commitment to promoting kabaddi, adding that such national-level events would continue in the future.
