NHMP launches anti-encroachment drive along GT Road

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP), N-5 North Zone, has launched a comprehensive anti-encroachment campaign along GT Road aimed at ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow and removing illegal structures, stalls, and unauthorized extensions along the national highway.

According to details, the operation was being carried out across the jurisdiction of the N-5 North Zone, covering key areas including Peshawar, Nowshera, Kamra, Taxila, Tarnol, Rawat, Gujar Khan, Jhelum, Lala Musa, Gujrat, and Gujranwala, said a press release issued here on Friday.

A NHMP offical said the drive was being conducted in close coordination with the National Highway Authority (NHA), local government, and Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) to ensure the success of the operation.

As part of this campaign, focused measures had been undertaken in the stretches from Jhhangi Syedan to Sangjani near Margalla Hills, as well as within Rawat City, to maintain smooth traffic movement. Under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mahmood-ur-Rahman, along with AD NHA (Encroachment) and Assistant Directors of Capital Development Authority, the illegal extensions of petrol pumps and CNG stations into the green belt have been demolished using excavators.

All makeshift stalls and roadside eateries have been removed, and unauthorized billboards and encroachments have been completely cleared. In addition, First Information Reports have been registered against certain violators.

To ensure sustained monitoring and prevent future encroachments, an Anti-Encroachment Squad has been established under the supervision of DSP Mahmood-ur-Rahman. This squad would conduct continuous surveillance and operations in the designated areas.

The anti-encroachment campaign along GT Road would remain continue to safeguard the safety and convenience of commuters. In line with its zero-tolerance policy, NHMP would initiate strict legal action against individuals found encroaching upon the highway, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to road safety and discipline.
