ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) National Institute of Health (NIH) has issued an advisory on the prevention and control of monsoon-related diseases.

The institute asked the provincial and Federal health departments, healthcare facilities, district administrations and other stakeholders to enhance preparedness and response measures during the rainy season.

According to the advisory, the monsoon season in Pakistan is associated with increased morbidity and mortality due to a wide range of communicable and vector-borne diseases.

Heavy rainfall, flooding, waterlogging, disruption of sanitation systems, contamination of drinking water sources and increased vector breeding create favorable conditions for outbreaks of several infectious diseases.

The NIH warned that diseases such as acute watery diarrhea, cholera, typhoid fever, malaria, dengue, chikungunya, leptospirosis, viral hepatitis A and E, and other infectious illnesses are more likely to spread during the monsoon season.

The advisory noted that population displacement caused by floods, overcrowding in temporary shelters, limited access to safe drinking water and healthcare services, and disruptions to routine public health activities further increase the risk of disease transmission.

The NIH emphasized that timely preparedness, strengthened disease surveillance, early detection of outbreaks and prompt response measures are essential to minimize the public health impact of monsoon-related diseases and prevent loss of life.

The advisory has been issued to guide all relevant authorities and stakeholders in strengthening surveillance, preparedness, prevention and response activities to reduce the burden of disease and protect public health during the monsoon season.
