PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) The opposition members in KP Assembly here Monday strongly criticized the provincial government budget by repeatedly referring to a recent speech by former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

During the assembly budget debate, opposition lawmakers repeatedly cited remarks made by the former chief minister in which he acknowledged certain shortcomings and mistakes in the provincial government's policies and performance.

Opposition leaders argued that senior figures associated with the ruling party were themselves admitting to failures, raising serious questions about the government's overall performance.

Opposition members stated that admitting mistakes is a positive practice, but the real question is why those shortcomings were not recognized when the responsible individuals were actually in positions of power and authority.

They argued that decisions are defended while officials hold office, but once they leave their positions, those same decisions are described as mistakes that are something they considered unfair to the public.

Participating in the debate, lawmakers sarcastically remarked that when they are sitting in the chair, they remember nothing; but the moment they step down, they remember everything.

They maintained that if the government leadership was aware of the problems and policy failures, it should have taken practical steps to address them in a timely manner.

The opposition claimed that the former chief minister’s statements amounted to an acknowledgment that the provincial government had failed to deliver the desired results in addressing public issues, securing the province’s economic rights, and managing administrative affairs effectively. The lawmakers called on the government to move beyond mere admissions and ensure meaningful reforms and accountability.
