He said here on Monday that special plantation drive would curb environmental pollution besides increasing green cover and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
The campaign would continue with full momentum till the end of April and the forest department had finalized comprehensive planning and mobilized all districts of the division to achieve the assigned targets, he added.
He said that out of total 650 acres earmarked for plantation, 380 acres had been allocated in the forest areas of Toba Tek Singh and Kamalia districts while 270 acres had been designated in Faisalabad and Jaranwala areas.
The initiative would help expand green belts, reduce air pollution and restore ecological balance in the region, he added.
Shahid Tabassum said that priority would be given to environment-friendly and climate-compatible indigenous species to ensure higher survival rates and long-term benefits.
The selected species include kikar, arjun, shisham, bakain, siras, mulberry and pelican, which not only support environmental conservation but also enhance soil fertility and promote biodiversity, he added.
