PUNJAB: The Matriculation Examination Board confirms that over 500,000 students did not pass the annual examinations, which indicates a serious lack of academic achievement and educational standards in Pakistan.
The highest number of failures was reported in Punjab, where over 358,000 students failed out of approximately 1.226 million candidates appearing in exams across nine educational boards. In Lahore alone, 87,419 students did not pass, showing a significant challenge in academic performance at the city level.
Other provinces also reported large numbers of failures. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded more than 80,000 unsuccessful students. Meanwhile, Sindh performed slightly better compared to others, with around 51,000 students failing their exams.
In Balochistan, the Quetta Board reported 78,839 candidates. Out of them, 9,797 students were unable to pass the exams.
The Federal Board showed relatively stronger results. Around 137,000 students appeared in the exams. However, 15,798 students failed despite better overall performance.
Education experts say the failure of 500,000 students highlights serious concerns. They believe the results point to weak preparation and gaps in the education system.
