LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Apr, 2026) A key meeting of the Punjab Alternative Dispute Resolution Authority (PADRA) was held on Friday under the chairmanship of Provincial Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, where proposed amendments to the Authority’s rules were reviewed in detail.
During the session, Secretary Law Asif Bilal Lodhi and Director General PADRA Javed Akbar Bhatti gave a comprehensive briefing on the proposed changes.
The participants were informed that the establishment of PADRA would be a transformative step, benefiting not only citizens of Punjab but also overseas Pakistanis by ensuring timely and cost-effective resolution of disputes. Officials noted that the existing rules, framed in 2019, now require amendments in line with evolving legal and administrative needs.
The meeting was further told that the proposed changes would pave the way for formal legislation through a comprehensive Act. It was highlighted that ADR centres across the province would be strengthened and expanded, alongside the establishment of dedicated training institutions to build capacity within the system.
The briefing also emphasized the introduction of digital platforms to promote Online Dispute Resolution (ODR), aimed at enhancing transparency and accessibility. A modern monitoring mechanism would also be developed to ensure merit-based and transparent operations.
The provincial minister directed that the draft rules must clearly define the Authority’s functions, appointment procedures, transfer policy and jurisdiction to ensure effective implementation.
He expressed hope that promoting the ADR system would significantly reduce the burden on courts and ensure speedy justice. He also stressed the need to raise public awareness about legal rights and the benefits of alternative dispute resolution.
Officials from the Law Department and other relevant stakeholders attended the meeting.
