Pak boxing team ready for Commonwealth Games

A five-member Pakistan boxing team has arrived in Glasgow to take part in the Commonwealth Games, which are scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 23.

The squad, accompanied by officials and Pakistan Olympic Association Secretary General Haji Khalid Mahmood Chaudhry, will represent the country in five different weight categories during the prestigious multi-sport event, according to a press release.

The Pakistani contingent includes three male and two female boxers. In the men’s categories, Samama Rehman will compete in the 55kg division, Qudrat Ullah will participate in the 60kg category, while Afzal Khan Pathan will feature in the 65kg event.

The women’s team consists of Malaika Zahid, who will compete in the 54kg category, and Fatima Zahra, who will represent Pakistan in the 60kg division.

Maj. Irfan Younis has been appointed as the team manager, while Muhammad Nisar Khan of the Pakistan Army will serve as the team’s coach for the competition.

Pakistan Boxing Federation President Col. (R) Nasir Ijaz Tung expressed confidence in the national squad, stating that the boxers have completed extensive preparations ahead of the Games. He hoped the athletes would deliver strong performances and make the country proud on the international stage.

The boxing competitions at the Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2. Boxers from several participating nations will compete across multiple weight divisions, with medals at stake in both men’s and women’s categories.

Pakistan has a proud history in Commonwealth Games boxing and will be aiming for a strong showing in Glasgow. The national boxers are expected to face tough competition but enter the event with the backing of months of preparation and training. The team management believes the combination of young talent and international experience can help Pakistan achieve positive results at the tournament.
