Pakistan confident Iran- US talks in Islamabad could lead to lasting ceasefire: Dr Faisal

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) Pakistan’s High Commissioner in the UK, Dr Muhammad Faisal on Thursday expressed full confidence and hope that the peace talks between the U.S. and Iran in Islamabad at the end of this week could turn the ceasefire into a lasting agreement.

In an exclusive interview with BBC, he said Pakistan’s leadership has played a key role in promoting this desire for peace, which did not exist 38 days ago, and expressed hope that it will reach a concrete outcome.

Dr Faisal noted that there was a significant gap between the two sides, but both show a serious willingness for resolution.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar have been working practically round the clock on this matter for several days, with full support from the Foreign Office, he said adding that the past ten days have been very busy and important.

Dr Faisal said Pakistan is confident that the talks will move in a positive direction.

He highlighted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken a clear and firm stance on Lebanon and the ceasefire, specifically mentioning Lebanon, which is part of this ceasefire.

He mentioned that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar recently visited China, where the Chinese leadership expressed deep interest in ending this conflict.

While acknowledging challenges and differences between both sides, Dr. Faisal said Pakistan remains hopeful and trusts the positive intentions of both parties.

He emphasized that only with positive intentions can issues be resolved and that everyone he meets expresses a desire to find a solution to this issue.

Dr. Faisal added that building trust takes time and trust between Iran-Pakistan and the U.S.-Pakistan already exists, which is why both sides are coming to Islamabad for talks.

He said that Pakistan desires sustainable peace and effective solutions in the region, and that the country’s aim is not merely short-term diplomatic success.
