ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) Vice President of the Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Sherry Rehman has underscored Pakistan’s significant diplomatic role in easing tensions between the United States and Iran, describing recent developments as a major achievement in conflict de-escalation.
In an interview with Al Arabiya English, Senator Rehman stated that Pakistan successfully helped bring the two opposing sides to the negotiating table through a delicate ceasefire arrangement. She termed this development a critical step toward regional stability and peace.
According to her, high-level talks held in Islamabad represent meaningful progress, emphasizing that dialogue remains the only viable path forward. The ceasefire, she noted, has provided both parties with the necessary space to reassess their positions and prepare for structured negotiations.
Senator Rehman underscored that sustainable solutions require time and cannot be achieved in a single round of talks. She acknowledged the extensive behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts by Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir, PM Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
She further noted that close coordination among state institutions and political leadership played a key role in enabling the negotiations, reflecting strong national unity.
Despite historical tensions and media-driven narratives, she cautioned that expectations of immediate “win-win” outcomes are unrealistic.
Highlighting Pakistan’s role as a neutral facilitator, Senator Rehman said the country has reinforced its credibility and diplomatic standing on the global stage. She added that Islamabad’s selection as the venue for talks—despite limited trust between the parties—marks a significant diplomatic milestone.
While acknowledging initial challenges and minor violations, she described the negotiations as a positive beginning. She stressed that continued engagement, sustained dialogue, and flexible strategies will be essential to advancing the peace process.
Concluding her remarks, Senator Rehman emphasized that in light of global challenges such as climate change, long-term cooperation through dialogue is indispensable, and confrontation must give way to constructive engagement.
