Pakistan launches Sky47, Pakistan’s first AI cloud infrastructure

PM Shehbaz praised the engineers, experts and institutions involved in the project,

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir inaugurated Sky47 Data Center, Pakistan’s first cloud computing facility aimed at strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister said the artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing facility reflected Pakistan’s growing technological capabilities and demonstrated that world-class projects could be accomplished through unity, vision and determination. He said he was impressed by the state-of-the-art facility, which was completed in record time.

Shehbaz praised the engineers, experts and institutions involved in the project, saying it showcased the exceptional talent available in both Pakistan’s military and civilian sectors.

Quoting national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal, he said nations are built through ideas and innovation rather than bricks and mortar alone, emphasizing that commitment and collective resolve are essential for national progress.

The prime minister also commended Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, for his leadership, saying the project demonstrated what could be achieved when state institutions work together toward a common national objective.

He said similar cooperation across other sectors could help Pakistan overcome challenges and emerge as a modern, technology-driven nation.

Shehbaz said the facility has an initial capacity of 8.5 megawatts and announced that similar AI and cloud computing infrastructure would soon be established in Karachi and Lahore.

He directed all government institutions to align with Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda, describing the project as a valuable national asset that will strengthen digital security, enhance technological self-reliance and improve the country’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
