Under proposed mechanism, eligible consumers may receive a monthly quota of 20 to 30 litres of petrol

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 28th, 2026) Pakistan is considering introducing a targeted petrol subsidy for motorcycle and rickshaws users, according to official sources.

Under the proposed mechanism, the eligible consumers may receive a monthly quota of 20 to 30 litres of subsidized fuel. The system is expected to be implemented through QR codes to ensure targeted distribution, with an official announcement likely in the near future.

The reports further indicate that the Federal government has sought Rs154 billion from provincial governments as part of its broader fiscal management and austerity measures.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, a high-level consultative meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb was informed that the country currently has sufficient fuel reserves to meet demand until May 10.

The meeting was also briefed that a final decision regarding any changes in petroleum product prices will be taken in a forthcoming meeting scheduled next week, involving the President, the Prime Minister, and the chief ministers of all four provinces.
