LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Thursday said that timely payments and financial stability are signs of improved governance in Pakistan Railways, adding that the ministry is committed to strengthening the institution through financial reforms.

In a statement, the minister said Pakistan Railways had taken significant steps towards achieving financial autonomy by initiating long-pending payments to employees and contractors. He said these measures would help restore confidence in the operational system and ensure better management and stability in the railways sector.

Abbasi said payments of outstanding dues pending for several years have been started, including the travelling allowance of Class-IV employees that had remained unpaid for the last eight years.

He said that Pakistan Railways had cleared payments worth Rs290 million to railway contractors as part of efforts aimed at improving financial discipline and operational efficiency.

The minister informed that the salary cheque of railway employees had also been sent in advance to the State Bank to ensure timely disbursement of salaries.

He said an amount of Rs70 million had been released for the clearance of employees’ dues, which created a wave of happiness among the staff.
