Islamabad – April 1, 2026: Pakistan has presented its official response to allegations made during an event organized by the Baloch National Movement (BNM) in Geneva on March 27. The response came after remarks by Ana Lorena Delgadillo Pérez regarding enforced disappearances and the situation in Balochistan.
Pakistan stated that it respects the mandate of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances and values constructive engagement with UN mechanisms. However, Pakistan said that the remarks made at the Geneva event were based on inaccuracies, selective facts, and unverified claims that do not reflect the ground realities in Balochistan, which Pakistan described as an integral and sovereign province of the country.
Sovereignty and Security Operations
Pakistan emphasized that Balochistan has always been a part of Pakistan and that security operations in the province are law enforcement and counter-terrorism measures conducted in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
Counter-Terrorism Actions
According to Pakistan, operations in Balochistan are directed against militant groups such as BLA and BLF. The government said these actions are legal, proportionate, and necessary to combat terrorism. Pakistan also noted that international bodies have condemned terrorist attacks in Balochistan.
Foreign-Sponsored Terrorism Claims
Pakistan stated that the recent increase in violence in Balochistan is due to foreign-supported militant groups targeting civilians, security forces, and development projects, including CPEC projects. The government maintained that terrorism, not state policy, is the main cause of instability in the region.
Missing Persons and Commission
Pakistan said that an independent Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances is working in the country and has resolved thousands of cases through legal procedures. The government stated that some individuals reported as missing were either involved with militant groups or were under lawful detention under anti-terror laws.
Rehabilitation and Human Rights
Pakistan also highlighted recent initiatives by the Government of Balochistan, including deradicalization centers aimed at rehabilitating individuals affected by militancy through education and skill development programs. Pakistan reiterated its commitment to human rights, rule of law, and fair trial.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to human rights and counter-terrorism efforts and urged the international community to reject propaganda that equates counter-terrorism operations with human rights violations. The country also emphasized its commitment to peace, development, and stability in Balochistan.
