Pakistan to roll out digital fuel management system with petrol quota

System aims to regulate fuel sales by restricting the amount of petrol each vehicle can purchase

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 7th, 2026) The Federal government on Tuesday decided to introduce a digital fuel management system at petrol pumps nationwide, under which a fixed petrol quota will be allocated for private vehicles.

The sources said that the system aims to regulate fuel sales by restricting the amount of petrol each vehicle can purchase. Consumers will not be allowed to obtain fuel beyond the assigned quota once the system is implemented.

The initiative will be operated through mobile handsets approved by the National Information Technology board and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

Preparations for the distribution of these devices to petrol pumps have been completed.

The sources said the Ministry of IT has finalized testing of the mobile devices, while the National Information Technology Board has also verified the handsets to be procured by oil marketing companies.

Besides it, the application developed for managing fuel distribution through the system has successfully completed its testing phase, paving the way for its implementation.
