PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) An important development has taken place at the Torkham border crossing on Wednesday as Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed on the return of trucks stranded on either side of the border.
Afghanistan has agreed to allow Pakistani trucks that have been stranded on the Afghan side since the closure of the Torkham crossing in October to return home. The decision follows high-level contacts between officials from both countries.
The breakthrough came after a meeting in Peshawar between Afghan Consul General Hafiz Mohibullah and Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud along with local administrative authorities.
During the meeting, both sides discussed in detail the border situation and the issue of stranded trucks in detail.
Following the talks, the two parties agreed that empty Pakistani trucks stuck in Afghanistan would be allowed to return.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>They also agreed to introduce a more organized mechanism for cross-border movement.
Under the new traffic schedule introduced for Torkham Border crossing, the cargo vehicles will be permitted to enter Pakistan daily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon through the Torkham Gate. After noon, the crossing will remain open primarily for the return of Afghan families and other travelers.
Experts believe that the decision to allow the return of stranded trucks is a positive sign for improving relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The move is expected to support the gradual restoration of cross-border trade, provide relief to transport operators affected by the border closure and help reduce trade-related pressure between the two neighboring countries.
