PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) A meeting of the Standing Committee on cabinet was held on Wednesday in Peshawar under the chairmanship of Aftab Alam, KP Minister for Law, Human Rights, and Parliamentary Affairs, in which important decisions were taken regarding various public welfare projects and administrative matters.

The meeting was attended by KP Minister for Higher Education and Local Government Meena Khan Afridi, Finance Minister Muzammil Aslam, the Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Secretary of sports and Youth Affairs, and senior officials from the Departments of Transport and Mass Transit, Law, Finance, and Communications and Works.

The meeting held a detailed discussion on the administrative transfer of the provincial chapter of the Pakistan Girls Guides Association.

Proposals were presented suggesting that, for improved performance and better alignment with the education sector, the organization should be shifted back from the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs to the Elementary and Secondary Education (E&SE) Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It was further proposed to assess whether the transfer of the association from the Education Department to the Sports Department in 2022 led to an increase or decrease in its activities by 2025, and whether the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs possesses the capacity to organize activities for students across 35,000 schools in the province.

The committee emphasized that Elementary and Secondary Education Department and the Sports and Youth Affairs Department should jointly formulate comprehensive recommendations and present them before the cabinet to determine a future course of action.

The objective of this move is to directly link this important organization for female students with the education system, thereby making it more effective and active.

Furthermore, the meeting reviewed progress on a major project concerning the establishment of a “Transport Complex” on GT Road in Peshawar, aimed at modernizing infrastructure and transport facilities in the city. It was informed that the project spans over 17 acres, with a five-storey main building, and includes the construction of a basement parking facility for 65 vehicles.

The participants were briefed that upon completion, the project will improve traffic flow in Peshawar and provide passengers with facilities of international standards. The Standing Committee directed the relevant authorities to ensure timely implementation of all projects so that the public can benefit from them at the earliest.
