Parliament best forum for resolving political issues: Tariq Fazal

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jun, 2026) Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary Friday emphasized that Parliament remains the most appropriate forum for resolving political differences, stressing that meaningful dialogue among political stakeholders is essential for national stability, development and democratic progress.

Speaking in the National Assembly, the minister said efforts were underway to strengthen political engagement between the government and the opposition.

He said that a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and opposition leaders was expected in the near future as part of ongoing initiatives to revive political dialogue.

Dr Tariq Fazal said contacts had already taken place at various levels, including discussions involving advisers and senior political figures, aimed at creating an environment conducive to constructive engagement.

He said that healthy debate within Parliament promotes unity and consensus rather than division.

Expressing satisfaction over the country's overall direction, the minister said Pakistan was witnessing positive developments in several sectors.

He appreciated the role of political leadership and state institutions in addressing national challenges and enhancing the country's standing at home and abroad.

The minister pointed out that Parliament had jointly adopted resolutions appreciating Pakistan’s dignity and national achievements, reflecting broad consensus among lawmakers on key national issues.

The minister said the government remained focused on development and reform initiatives, adding that internal stability, economic progress, and timely resolution of public issues must remain national priorities.

Discussing the federal budget, Dr Tariq Fazal said it had been prepared within limited fiscal space while attempting to address the needs of different segments of society.

He assured the House that constructive proposals from opposition parties and coalition partners would be considered for inclusion wherever feasible and within available resources.

The minister said that members of Parliament had been provided ample opportunity to participate in the budget debate, with many lawmakers speaking beyond their allotted time, reflecting the depth and seriousness of the discussions.

He also thanked the Speaker for ensuring smooth and orderly proceedings and expressed confidence that the remaining stages of the budget process would be completed successfully in the coming days.

On foreign policy, the minister said Pakistan had played a constructive role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran during a critical period, helping to support negotiations and reduce tensions.

He said Pakistan remained engaged throughout the process and consistently encouraged diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Dr Tariq Fazal said that recent diplomatic understandings had been widely welcomed by the international community, as they helped prevent further escalation, loss of lives, and disruptions to regional stability.

He said that diplomatic progress had also eased pressure on global energy markets, trade routes, supply chains, and fuel prices.

He credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their active diplomatic engagement with world leaders, saying their efforts reflected Pakistan’s constructive contribution to international affairs and its commitment to promoting dialogue during sensitive global developments.

The minister said Pakistan’s continued progress depended on political stability, institutional coordination, and sustained reforms.

He expressed confidence that ongoing efforts would further strengthen the country’s economic outlook and diplomatic standing on the international stage.
