PDMA puts district administrations on high alert as strong monsoon system approaches Sindh

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jul, 2026) The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has placed district administrations across Sindh on high alert and directed all relevant departments to take precautionary and emergency response measures as strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea continue to affect the province.

According to a weather advisory issued by PDMA, based on forecasts of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents penetrating the country, coupled with a western weather system affecting upper and central regions, are likely to trigger widespread rain, thunderstorms and isolated heavy downpours in several districts of Sindh from July 23 to July 25.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed all Deputy Commissioners, district administrations, municipal authorities, irrigation officials, health services, rescue agencies and local government institutions to remain fully vigilant, ensure preparedness of emergency response teams, maintain drainage systems and take all necessary steps to protect lives and property.

The chief minister also instructed divisional commissioners and local bodies to closely monitor low-lying areas, urban centres and vulnerable locations, ensure the availability of rescue equipment and maintain uninterrupted coordination among all departments during the forecast period.

According to the advisory, dust thunderstorms and rain, with moderate to isolated heavy falls, are expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro and Shaheed Benazirabad from July 23 to July 25, with occasional gaps.

Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is also expected in Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Kamber-Shahdadkot, Larkana, Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze and Thatta during July 23 and 24.

The Met Office forecast indicates predominantly warm and humid conditions in Karachi Division over the next three days, with increasing cloud cover and chances of drizzle and light rain.

Southwesterly winds are expected to prevail throughout the period.

Acting on the chief minister’s directives, PDMA Sindh has strengthened emergency preparedness arrangements and ensured the availability of machinery, equipment and manpower for rapid response operations.

PDMA has deployed and made available the necessary machinery and workforce to humanitarian response facilities and emergency centres in Karachi, Jamshoro and Sukkur to respond promptly to any rain-related emergencies.

The CM has also directed all Deputy Commissioners and District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to maintain close coordination with municipal bodies, health departments, irrigation authorities, rescue services and law enforcement agencies.

PDMA warned that strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning could damage vulnerable infrastructure, including solar panels, electric poles, billboards and signboards and weak structures and temporary installations.

Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities in accordance with weather conditions and ensure the safety of livestock during the forecast period.

The advisory further noted that prevailing hot and humid weather conditions are likely to ease due to rainfall activity across the province.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed all concerned authorities to remain on alert round the clock, monitor the evolving weather situation continuously and take proactive measures to avoid any untoward incidents.

CM Shah emphasised that protection of human life, livestock, public infrastructure and essential services must remain the top priority and instructed district administrations to ensure immediate response to any emergency arising from heavy rainfall, urban flooding, strong winds or lightning.
