ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jun, 2026) DG PDMA Punjab Umar Javed on Monday appealed for public vigilance, stating that under the Chief Minister’s directives, a comprehensive and scientifically guided flood and heatwave preparedness plan has been activated across the province, while warning that South Punjab is likely to experience a heatwave and light to moderate rainfall activity is expected to continue till 6 June.
While speaking exclusively to a private news channel, he said that lessons learned from the 2025 flood situation have strengthened preparedness measures, adding that this year the response system has been made more active and efficient under the Chief Minister’s leadership to better manage potential risks and ensure timely action across vulnerable areas.
DG said that all relevant departments have been placed on high alert and weather advisories have already been issued to ensure timely preparedness and response.
He added that under the Chief Minister’s strict directives, continuous monitoring is being carried out in high-risk areas, especially those that were affected during last year’s flooding, with special focus on vulnerable regions identified for potential risk escalation.
He further said that additional sensitive zones have also been identified and a coordinated monitoring mechanism is in place to ensure swift action, minimize possible damage and strengthen early warning and response systems across the province.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He said that from 2 to 6 June, light rainfall is expected across parts of North to West Punjab, while a heatwave advisory has been issued for South Punjab, urging citizens to take precautionary measures amid rising temperatures.
He urged the media to play an active role in creating public awareness and guiding citizens about precautionary measures, while also advising people to immediately contact emergency helplines 1122 and 1129 in case of any emergency or assistance requirement.
He also issued an agriculture advisory, urging farmers to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to protect crops and livestock amid the expected heatwave and intermittent rainfall, ensuring timely care to minimize potential losses.
He advised citizens, particularly in South Punjab, to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 10am and 4pm and to drink plenty of water to stay properly hydrated amid the prevailing heatwave conditions.
He said that under the Chief Minister’s directives, authorities are establishing relief and heatwave response centers across vulnerable areas, along with ensuring the provision of clean drinking water, ORS and first aid facilities for the public.
