PFA conducted crackdown on unsafe food outlets in Murree

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2026) On the third day of Eid-ul-Azha, an extraordinary influx of tourists was witnessed in Murree as visitors from across the country thronged the hill station.

In response, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intensified special operations to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to tourists.

According to a PFA spokesperson, comprehensive inspections were conducted at 98 food points across Murree, New Murree, Patriata, Mall Road, and the Murree Expressway.

During the inspections, 11 food outlets were fined a total of Rs. 153,000 due to poor hygiene conditions, substandard food quality, and violations of food safety regulations.

The spokesperson further stated that two food outlets were immediately sealed over extremely poor hygiene and unsatisfactory conditions.

In addition, a large quantity of expired cold drinks, spices, and other hazardous food items was confiscated and destroyed to protect public health.

PFA officials said special monitoring teams have been deployed during the Eid holidays to continuously inspect various areas amid the rising tourist influx in Murree.

Food business operators have been directed to strictly ensure cleanliness, food quality, and compliance with hygiene standards, warning that strict legal action will be taken in case of violations.

The spokesperson also urged tourists to report any complaints regarding substandard food or poor sanitary conditions immediately to the PFA helpline 1223 so that prompt action can be taken against violators.
