LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 31st Mar, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) destroyed large quantities of adulterated and counterfeit food
items, including 1,500 litres of pre-mix and 200 litres of fake cold drinks, during operations
against adulteration mafia in various areas of the city on Monday.
During the crackdown, 250 litres of milk and over 100 kilograms of chemicals were also discarded, while filling machines, gas cylinders, pressure cylinders, motors and blue drums were seized.
According to a PFA spokesperson, a residential unit in Lakhodair was found preparing fake cold drinks using unapproved formulas and affixing counterfeit labels of well-known brands. All raw materials and finished products were confiscated and a case was registered.
Overall, 86 units and suppliers were inspected, leading to registration of one case, sealing of two units and imposition of Rs725,000 in fines on 10 units.
During early morning checking, 63,000 litres of milk carried in 75 vehicles were also inspected.
Operations were carried out in Lakhodair, Johar Town, Faisal Park, MM Alam Road, Garhi Shahu and Gulberg, where action was also taken against restaurants and confectionery units.
PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid said that strict action was taken over serious violations, including poor sanitation, fungus-infested walls, foul smell, absence of workers’ medical and training certificates, and lack of mandatory supply records. He added that insects, flies and cobwebs were found in processing areas.
He said no compromise would be made on food safety standards, adding that a comprehensive crackdown against food adulteration mafia would continue across all levels in line with the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab.
