PFA discards 3,755kg dead chicken, imposes Rs216,000 fines

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jun, 2026) Enforcement teams of Punjab Food Authority on the directions of Director General Punjab Food Authority Syed Musa Raza, carried out a large-scale crackdown in various areas of Lahore.

During the operation, raids were conducted on 30 food points and units, while 14 food businesses were fined a total of Rs216,000 for violating food safety regulations and failing to comply with previously issued instructions.

Food safety teams inspected chicken suppliers at Tollinton Market in early morning hours and discarded 3,755kg of dead chickens. Veterinary specialists conducted a detailed examination of the poultry and declared it unfit for human consumption. Teams also imposed heavy fines on food businesses over the presence of cats, flies and mosquitoes, poor sanitation arrangements, rusty and unhygienic freezers.

DG Syed Musa Raza said that PFA is continuing day and night operations to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to the public. He said that strict compliance with food safety laws is mandatory for all food businesses operating in Punjab. He stated that elements playing with public health deserve no leniency and will face stringent action under the law.

He further said that surprise inspections of renowned food chains are being carried out across the province to ensure compliance with food safety standards and to protect consumers from unsafe food practices.
