LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th May, 2026) Enforcement teams of Punjab Food Authority, on the directions of Director General PFA Syed Musa Raza, carried out a grand operation to ensure food safety in Lahore. During the crackdown, 9,645 kilograms of dead chickens along with over 40 kilograms of prohibited colors and expired items were discarded. A total of 36 food units and suppliers were inspected, resulting in fines amounting to Rs626,000.
PFA’s food safety teams conducted early morning operations in Tollinton Market and surrounding areas, successfully foiling an attempt to supply dead chickens to the market. DG PFA said that large quantities of unsafe poultry were discarded on the spot.
He said that poor hygiene conditions were observed in restaurant kitchens, including heavy insect infestation and foul-smelling environments.
He added that dairy and meat were being stored together in dirty, fungus-infected freezers.
DG said that oil change records, as well as medical and training certificates of food handlers, were not available. He said that expiry and production dates were also missing on raw and prepared food items.
He stated that the PFA is committed to ensuring provision of quality food and eliminating the adulteration mafia, emphasizing that compliance with food safety laws is mandatory for all food business operators. He further stated that those endangering public health will not be given any leniency.
