PFA discards over 1,000 litres of unsafe soft drinks

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intensified its crackdown on the production of substandard beverages in Multan and recovered a large quantity of contaminated soft drinks during a raid on a beverage manufacturing unit in VIP Colony on Suraj Kund Road.

According to a PFA spokesman, a food safety team conducted raid and during the operation, samples of ready-to-sell beverages were collected and tested. Laboratory analysis found the products unfit as they failed to meet the prescribed food safety and quality standards.

The inspection further revealed the use of substandard and non-compliant ingredients in the manufacturing process.

The food safety team disposed of more than 1,000 litres of substandard carbonated drinks on the spot and imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on the factory management for violations of food safety regulations.

Talking about the operation, Director General PFA Syed Musa Raza said the authority had tightened its monitoring of beverage manufacturers, particularly during the summer season, to protect consumers from unsafe products.

He said the Punjab Food Authority remained committed to ensuring the provision of safe, hygienic and quality food and beverages to the public under its zero-tolerance policy.

The DG added that strict legal action would continue against all individuals and businesses found violating food safety laws.
