LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2026) An enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority has discarded 69,700 kilograms of substandard murabba and rotten fruits worth over Rs30 million while uncovering a major food fraud network.
Action was taken on the directions of Director General PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid, as Additional Director General Operations Asad Ullah led an operation at a unit located near Nadeem Park Ganda Nala. Production of the unit was shut down, an FIR was lodged and a suspect was arrested.
Food safety teams recovered a large quantity of foul-smelling and unfit murabba prepared using insect-infested and fungus-contaminated fruits, which were immediately discarded. Inspection revealed that the fruits used were rotten, discolored and infested with insects, while prohibited chemicals were being used to remove odor, insects and fungus.
The DG PFA said that workers were operating without medical certificates, essential documentation and proper hygiene arrangements. He said that expired and returned products from the market were being mixed with freshly prepared stock for resale.
He said that the hazardous murabba was being attractively packed for supply across Punjab, posing a serious threat to public health. He said that mafia involved in such practices as enemies of humanity, exploiting consumers for higher profits.
He further stated that strict actions are being taken against food fraud mafia on the directions of the Chief Minister Punjab, adding that businesses involved in such illegal activities will be completely shut down.
