LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Apr, 2026) An enforcement team of Punjab food Authority on the directions of Director General PFA Syed Musa Raza, has intensified operations against the substandard meat mafia and sealed five meat processing units during a major crackdown.

Action was led by Additional Director General Operations Asad Ullah at Bakar Mandi Lahore, where strict action was taken against units involved in supplying unsafe meat. Food safety teams discarded 2,450 kilograms of foul-smelling and substandard meat recovered from the units.

The DG PFA said that the units were operating under extremely poor conditions, including inadequate storage, broken and dirty floors, and unhygienic environments. He said that expired meat was being processed into minced meat and small packaging for supply in the market.

A veterinary specialist conducted an on-site inspection of the discarded meat and declared it hazardous for human consumption.

He said that meat handlers were working without mandatory medical and training certificates, while proper pest control measures were not in place. He emphasized that ensuring full traceability of meat for shops is mandatory under PFA regulations.

He stated that all expired and unsafe meat was destroyed on the spot, reiterating that protecting public health remains the authority’s top priority. He further stated that those selling disease in pursuit of profit will not be allowed to operate.

He has requested the public to support the PFA in eliminating the adulteration mafia and report to the PFA on its 1223 helpline number in case of any complaints.
