RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday foiled an attempt to supply substandard meat in Rawalpindi after seizing around 1,500 kilograms of unsafe stock during an early morning operation.
Acting on a tip-off, PFA teams intercepted a suspected vehicle during a blockade near Imtiaz Market in Chakra, a PFA spokesperson said. Upon inspection, the meat was found to be stale, foul-smelling and unfit for human consumption.
A veterinary doctor declared the consignment hazardous to health following a detailed examination, after which the meat was destroyed on the spot to prevent it from reaching consumers, he added.
“The meat was being transported clandestinely for supply within the city, but timely action averted a major public health risk,” the official said.
Police were called to the scene and took the vehicle into custody. A case was registered by the Food Authority, and two individuals were detained in connection with the incident.
The spokesperson said indiscriminate action was underway across the province against those dealing in adulterated and unsafe food, adding that enforcement operations were being intensified to curb such practices.
Citizens were urged to report suspected adulteration or unhygienic food items through the PFA helpline 1223 to enable prompt action.
