PFA seizes 4,000kg of dead chicken in major crackdown

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) In a major crackdown on unsafe food supply,the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized and destroyed around 4,000 kilograms of rotten chicken near Adda Billi Wala on Bahawalpur road,officials said on Monday.

According to a PFA spokesperson,the operation was launched after a tip-off regarding the illegal transportation of hazardous meat.

A suspicious vehicle was intercepted and searched,leading to the recovery of nearly 100 maunds of decomposed chicken intended for distribution across the city to hotels,food outlets and poultry shops.

Officials said the contaminated meat posed a serious threat to public health and was immediately disposed of on the spot.

The vehicle used for transportation was taken into custody while a case has been registered against those involved under relevant food safety laws.

Director General(DG) of the Punjab Food Authority(PFA),Syed Musa Raza reiterated a zero-tolerance policy against the sale of substandard and hazardous food items,stating that strict enforcement actions would continue across the province to curb food adulteration networks.

He urged citizens to purchase meat only from licensed vendors and report suspicious activity to the PFA helpline (1223).
