PHF hails CM Maryam Nawaz for Rs 150m grant

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) The Punjab government on Thursday approves a grant of 150 million rupees for the Pakistan Hockey Federation for revival and development of national sport hockey in the country.

The initiative reflects Punjab government’s continued commitment to the revival of national sports, particularly hockey, which holds paramount status in Pakistan’s sporting identity. The money will be spent on promotion of hockey at the grassroots level and strengthening technical and coaching aspects of the game across Pakistan.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee chaired by Senior Minister Punjab Maryam Aurangzeb. The meeting was attended by the Provincial Finance Minister, Secretary Finance, Secretary Sports, and other senior officials.

The grant was approved in response to a formal request submitted by the Pakistan Hockey Federation.

The funding is aimed at reviving Pakistan hockey by investing in talent identification, grassroots development programs, modern coaching standards, and technical capacity building.

PHF, in a press release, expressed gratitude for the support extended by the Punjab government. The Federation hailed Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif for her patronage of the sport. It also thanked Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, and the entire provincial cabinet for their timely intervention and commitment to the development of hockey in Pakistan.

The PHF further said that the financial support will play a vital role in rebuilding the hockey infrastructure, improving performance standards, and creating new opportunities for young athletes across the country.
