PM Shehbaz, Italian PM express concern over ongoing hostilities in Lebanon

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday received a telephone call from the Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Giorgia Meloni and discussed the prevailing situation in the region.

The two leaders expressed their serious concern over the ongoing hostilities in Lebanon, and agreed on the need for coordinated international efforts to prevent further escalation, so as to pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.

Appreciating Pakistan’s successful diplomatic efforts for the U.

S.-Iran ceasefire and resumption of dialogue, Prime Minister Meloni felicitated the prime minister on hosting the forthcoming peace negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, in Islamabad.

While underscoring the genuine and sincere desire of Pakistan for peace and stability in the region, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the joint statement issued by key European and international leaders, including Prime Minister Meloni, in support of Pakistan’s peace efforts.
